The importance of changing your BMW and Mercedes Cabin Air Filter

Import Service of the Lowcounty Very Dirty Cabin Air FilterHilton Head BMW Repair cabin filterPollen in a BMW cabin filter Hilton Head

Many drivers are unaware of all the filters their vehicle may have and one most often overlooked is the Cabin Filter. Living in the Lowcountry, we are exposed to a long and heavy pollen season. Your cars cabin filter is your first line of defense in keeping the pollen and other contaminants such as mold, odors, dust, insects, and airborne particles out of the air that circulates through your vehicle’s ventilation system.

To keep air quality at its best, filters should be replaced according to manufacturers’ recommendations, generally once a year or every 15,000 miles. More frequently if you drive in dusty or industrial environments.  However, it has been our experience that twice a year replacement may be necessary if the spring pollen has been greater than normal.  A visual inspection is typically the deciding factor.

Changing you cabin filter at regular intervals also has additional benefits for your vehicle. A clean filter helps remove moisture and condensation out of the HVAC system, which stops the growth of mold and other odors. Also, the blower assembly doesn’t have to work as hard pulling in air through a dirty and clogged filter.

We strive to keep your BMW and Mercedes running in like new! Since 2003 Import Service of the Lowcountry has been specializing in the repair and service of BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Mini, Volvo, and Saab. We look forward to taking care of you car now and in the future.

On most vehicles, a visual inspection only takes a few minutes, so feel free to stop in and have your filter checked out. We are open Monday – Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. P:843-645-7717
